Walking tours in the gardens are lead by the designer, Kathleen Hartley.
They are available by group appointment. All tours require one-month advance notice.
Tours are available Monday-Friday & Non Holiday Dates. Pricing is as follows:

A Day in the Garden

Kathleen will tke you step by step through our 3 acres of professionally landscaped grounds. Kathleen is the original designer of these gardens,
and will review plant material, flow-of-traffic issues, and ancient family planting secrets.

How-To Classes

Richard or Kathleen is available for speaking on the following subjects. All materials mentioned are for you to take home, unless otherwise noted.
Talks, and How-To classes are on location at Hartley Botanica in Somis. Off-premises talks require a traveling fee.

Low Maintenance Landscaping
$10 per person
Richard will talk about plants requiring little to no maintenance. A list of plants will be provided. Attendees are free to ask our plant expert any number of questions that will help them to better understand the concept of low maintenance landscaping. Min. 5/Max. 40

Bringing Color Into the Garden
$10 per person
Kathleen will talk about plants and flowers that can bring added color to your garden year-round. A list of plants will be provided. Attendees are free to ask our plant expert any number of questions that will help them to better understand the concept of bringing color into the garden. Min. 5/Max. 40

How to Install a Sod Lawn
$15 per person
Richard will take you through the steps of installing your own sod lawn. After which, you will be able to try your hand at installing some sod yourself. Soil amendment, and sod are included. Tools will be available to use. Min. 3/Max. 8

Concrete Stamping with Real Leaves
$30 per person
Richard will show you our time-tested technique of stamping concrete with real leaves found in your garden. This same method is used in our very own Botanical Gardens. Concrete, gloves, paintbrush, mold, and concrete coloring are included. You will take home your own stamped concrete stepping stone. Min. 4/Max. 15

Pruning Roses
$30 per person
Kathleen or Richard will train you to prune roses in a way that will ensure you a healthy plant and maximum blooms. Rose clippers are included. Min. 3/Max. 10

How to Trim, not Butcher, Your Trees
$30 per person
Richard will go over the basics of tree trimming including shape, appearance, and the nature of different trees. Richard has been trimming trees for over 40 years, and considers it an art form. Included is a tree trimming saw. Feel free to bring your own equipment for a reduced price, or to have Richard evaluate it.

How to Make a Topiary
$31 per person
Kathleen will lead you through making and shaping topiary figures. You will be able to try your hand at creating a figure of your own, to take home with you. Pliers, wire, and gloves are provided. Min. 3/Max. 8
